Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Club

The Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Club was formed in 2005 and was the first established dragon boat club in the Tampa Bay area. Paddlers from corporate racing teams began practicing together and formed the Club as a way to enjoy year round dragon boating. The Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Club was established to foster amateur competition in the sport of dragon boating.

The TBDBC, or as we are more commonly known, the “Tampa Bladerunners” quickly rose through the dragon boating ranks to become one of the more competitive teams in the Southeast US. In 2009, Great White North ranked the Bladerunners 63rd out of 779 teams in North America.

TBDBC has consistently had impressive representation on Team USA. Club members have traveled to Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Russia and Canada, competing in competitions organized by the International Dragon Boat Federation’s (IDBF) World Dragon Boat and the International Canoe Federation (ICF) throughout the years.

Four TBDBC members were a part of Team USA for the 2017 IDBF World Championships in China in October 2017. All the USA teams performed exceptionally well and came home with several Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments on the world stage!

Several Bladerunners tested for Dragon Boat Team USA to compete at the 2018 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships in Lake Lanier, Georgia and we're proud to say that 11 of our members have been chosen for Team USA. We wish them the best of luck in September!

The TBDBC traveled to Puerto Rico to compete in the 2017 Pan American Club Crew Championships and dominated the competition by stellar performances in the following divisions: GOLD-Premier Women (500m, 200m), Premier Mixed (500m, 200m, 2k), Senior A Women (200m); and SILVER - Premier Women (2k), Senior A Women (500m, 2k).

In September 2017, for the first time since 2006, the Bladerunners competed in the USDBF Club Crew National Championships in Mercer, NJ, going up against the best teams in the nation. The Bladerunners performed exceptionally well, earning the bronze medal in the Premier Ladies division and 4th place in the Premier Mixed division.

The Bladerunner ladies “Bladies” were regionally undefeated for 2016-2017 and are continuing that trend for 2018. The Bladerunners (both mixed and ladies team) swept both the 2018 Mira Bay Dragon Boat Festival and the 2018 Sarasota International Dragon Boat Festival. The Bladerunners defended their title at the 2018 Tampa Bay International Dragon Boat Festival with the Gold in Premier Women and Premier Open (with SACA) and the Silver in Premier Mixed.

The Bladerunners competed in Vancouver, Canada at the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival in June 2018 placing 8th out of 40 Premier Women teams and 13th out of 104 Premier Mixed teams; quite an accomplishment!

Are you competitive? We are the team for you! Do you want to become a better paddler? We are the team for you! Come join us and see what dragon boat racing is all about! We’re not just a club, we’re FAMILY! PADDLES UP!!
